Not much socializing happening in life? Feeling a bit low and dull during this pandemic? Are you missing the feeling of the hustle and bustle which happened at work and college while meeting deadlines? Missing the gossip with colleagues at work and with friends at study? Last but not the least, a short catching up for drinks after work is what some of us might be missing to the core. Aah, who doesn’t want to spend some quality time with a bunch of friends in the evening after all. For anyone who always had a busy work life would definitely miss the above-mentioned events at some point. So this is how our daily life looks like, in general: get up in the morning, go to work, achieve the assigned targets at work, feel good about it and finally reward yourself with a nice gettogether with friends/colleagues after work accompanied with a glass of wine maybe. Making each day count, isn’t it?

For most of us, this is how the day starts and ends without the slightest change in routine. It is said that a busy mind seldom yields polished thoughts. A busy mind which is trained to carry out the same monotonous activity each day, would not really care to try something new or might be too tired for that matter. A 9 to 5 job seems to be the only requirement for survival. Is survival enough to spend your whole life without actually feeling any joy from inside? Have you ever felt a need to get yourself recognized outside of your 9 to 5 job? I have come across many individuals (including myself) who have a stable source of income coming in, there is no financial pressure but somehow there is psychological pressure. Psychological pressure in terms of having no clue where the current life is leading to, missing a purpose in life, not being able to give enough time to your passion, and a feeling which states that you are back to square one from where you started. This is a very common situation and most of us have been through the same at some point in life.

When you get some time alone, all by yourself, and do not have enough people around to interact, then, probably that might be the best time when one gets a second chance to reframe the actions of life. How? An empty mind is not always a devil’s workshop. The best ideas kick in when we start to spend some quality time with ourselves. Creativity kicks in when one gets a break from a daily routine and most importantly when there are fewer distractions in life (COVID-19 lockdown is one such example). And that is why I mentioned in the blog heading that even when you are alone or get a sudden setback from being pushed aside from your daily life routine, you can still make each day count, by honing your skills, giving time to your passion, and finally taking a step further in creating your dream life. Start building a different life apart from your 9 to 5 which will add value to your life in the upcoming days. Doing this would have not been possible otherwise(with a busy schedule). Let us remind ourselves that nothing lasts forever. If today you are feeling lonely and have no fixed routine, tomorrow the situation might change instantly, and then you would be ready to dive into your busy lifestyle once again. So why not use the free time in hand. Consider yourself privileged when you have time to spare. It totally depends upon us how we utilize the time in hand.

Sometimes, focusing on what you have in hand can get you back your lost things and even experiences similar to the past! So, don’t count on what you have lost, focus on what you have right now“. When tomorrow the situation would change again, you might not get the chance to do tasks which you could have done earlier without any distractions.

Being an ex-pat for more than 5+ years, I totally get what it takes to adjust to new surroundings. Diversity makes life interesting. The phrase from William Cowper’s poem ” variety is the spice of life” says it all. Getting quality time to learn new things in a new country brings in a lot of productive ideas. A monotonous routine and always being surrounded by the crowd creates a blockage in the thought process. When you are alone, you get to think about yourself, whether there is something new which you would like to try in life. This creates a situation of self-analysis. You get time to plan things and reframe the old ones. You can clearly estimate what lies ahead of you. So having a phase in life when you actually get a good amount of time in hand and fewer friends around is the best time to do your research on your own life actions. Don’t sulk over loneliness. The grass always looks greener on the other side. As they say, whatever happens, happens for good. Who knows there might a reason behind a change in lifestyle which has forcefully entered your daily routine. Make the most out of each day and the current situation. In the past, we were probably looking for a break and when it happens, we do not accept it easily. We cling to the past and wish to have the same things in life over and over again. This is human nature. I believe there is a hidden agenda behind every change we come across.

When feeling lonely, try not to sulk over it, make it your strength. There is no one around to influence or mold the originality of your thoughts. Challenge your negative thoughts. There are a lot many people who aspire for so many things in life but fall short of time due to worldly duties and family responsibilities. Consider yourself lucky when you get all the free time in the world with fewer distractions. We live in a fast-paced world, changes happen around us all the time. Getting quickly adapted to the surroundings and adding value to each day is something that would keep us pumped up.
